Aims of the Trust

ABL is a community-based regeneration organisation. Its mission is to develop enterprise and training initiatives in partnership with public and private sectors with the aim of enhancing the economic and social prospects of the communities of Manningham and Girlington in Bradford where the majority of the population is from ethnic minority groups.

ABL manages Carlisle Business Centre (CBC) which has 89 business units with conference and training facilities. It provides on-site business support services to its tenants and helps community groups to hold conferences, training seminars and social functions at CBC.

Benefits expected

ABL's income generation is dependant on a management contract with the Local Authority, who own the property, for managing Carlisle Business Centre.

As a long term strategy ABL needs to become self-sufficient and an independant organisation by owning CBC as an asset. ABL will seek support of the DTA to acquire the transfer of the asset from the Local Authority.

Benefits received

Being a member, ABL has become part of a large network who have similar aims and objectives giving opportunity to exchange good practices.

DTA has supported ABL in training and developing its action plan (1997-99).
