Background

Education works for People

Aims of Trust

The Belle Isle Foundation was established in 1995 as a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. The Foundation is a community organisation supporting and being supported by many local organisations and groups. The Trust was established in response to local concerns about the job opportunities in the area; it has grown and evolved but maintains strong community links with a focus on training, education and ultimately employment.

The Foundation works to improve the quality of life for local people by offering a range of projects that are designed to help people access the world of work, education, training and community activity. The Foundation is an evolving organisation, responding pro actively to the needs of the local community, constantly developing new projects and new partnerships.

The Team

The Foundation is now supported by a grant of £318,408 by the National Lotteries Charities Board for a 3 year period up to September 2002, enabling the employment of an expanded team of project workers:

Amanda Goodchild - Foundation Co-ordinator (full-time)
Cath Gill - Work and Learning Club Project Leader (full-time)
Training Co-ordinator (part-time) (currently vacant)
On-line Project Worker (part-time) (currently vacant)
Maria Bradley & Judith Pritchard - Administrators (full-time - job share)
Youth Worker (full-time) (currently vacant) - funded by Neighbourhood Support Fund for 3 years

The rapid expansion of the Foundation as a whole and recent personnel changes have meant that the Foundation itself and the Work and Learning Club are currently in a period of transition.

The Building

The Foundation makes use of Leeds City Council premises.

Meeting room hire - The Foundation has one dedicated conference room and an open area which can be used for meetings and other events, which accommodates up to 40-50 individuals and is available to organisations, groups and individuals at a very reasonable cost. We can provide an OHP, screen, flip chart, TV, video and refreshments.
