Belle
Isle
Other
Projects The Foundation
is supporting many diverse projects. Current major
projects include: Belle Isle
On Line - aiming to link local community groups
by email and enabling access to the internet;
shared training, technical support; web
site. Belle Isle
Family Centre - a joint bid between the Belle
Isle Foundation and the Family Centre, made to the
Neighbourhood Support Fund, was successful and
£71,000 has been approved to fund a full-time
Youth Worker over 3 years. The Family Centre
provides a drop in facility with a social function
as well as offering a range of services and
support; a further £1.5 million is needed for
building work (in the undercroft of a local
church). The Youth Worker will develop a youth
forum in the area, enabling local young people to
have a voice in the community. The
establishment of a Cyber cafe, free to the
local community, is being launched on 19 August
2000. DAZL (Dance
Action Leeds) project - funding from various
health bodies has been obtained to employ a dance
worker for 2 years working with women and girls who
are seen to be a high risk health group. The Foundation
also acts as a facilitator, or a liaising agency -
bringing people in the community together through,
for example, community conferences. A recent
conference focused on young people and was attended
by 60 people. Group meetings were held before the
conference to ensure that people would participate
fully. |
