The post of
Training Co-ordinator is currently vacant (at June
2000). Once that post has been refilled, it is
planned to relaunch the induction training
programme for mentors, providing a code of practice
and guidelines on the Foundation's policy on equal
opportunities, as well as making reference to other
work of the Foundation. The Work and
Learning Project Worker aims to introduce a formal
policy on volunteers. The Board of
Directors is keen to see the introduction of a
local employment policy within the
Foundation. Recent changes
in procedures relating to the application, approval
and monitoring of participants' projects under the
umbrella of the Work and Learning Club are aimed at
making the whole process less cumbersome and
time-consuming. The need for written procedures is
acknowledged, but these need to be flexible to take
account the needs of the individual
concerned. Current
procedures (from August 1999): Participant

(A4) Project
proposal approved by Project Worker* Mentor lined up
by Project Worker - to give general
guidance/support Work &
Learning Club Executive Panel receives Project
Worker reports on approved projects Feedback
(formal reports) from mentors incorporated in
Project The Project
Worker reports quarterly to the Board of
Directors. *The Work and
Learning Club Project Worker now has authority to
approve projects on behalf of the Executive Panel
and can authorise expenditure up to £20 for
the participant. Former
procedures (1995-1999): Participant
