• economic quantification and evaluation of regional agricultural policies;
• structural analyses in relation to regional development, to the consequences of agricultural, regional and environmental policy measures;
• zoning of agricultural and regional-economic areas and disadvantaged areas;
• Member of different working groups with regard to regional statistics and regional economics;
• International research projects with a focus on the multifunctionality and their evaluation of agricultural areas especially in peri-urban areas and the urban fringe

The Federal Institute of Agricultural Economics in Vienna is an Institution of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. It exists since 1960 and has 34 employees, of which 15 are scientists. The duties of the Institute are given in the federal act BGBl. 230/1982 for „LandwirtschaftlicheBundesanstalten":

• Research in agricultural micro- and macroeconomics, food economy, agricultural policies and sociology,regional planning, environmental protection and statistics
• Analyses of policy measures and of the agricultural sector within the economy, monitoring of national and international agricultural market and regional developments, of agricultural structures and forecasting
• Provision of data and methodological support for farm management and elaboration of issues for the agricultural extension services
• Public library and information services on agricultural economics.

   

  23 research projects are going on in 2000, most of them in co-operation with national or international institutions.
