Since its foundation in 1985, the SEGEFA has obtained more than 170 different contracts, principally in the domains of economic geography, urban geography, town and country planning and regional and urban development. The SEGEFA is very close to LEPUR set up in 1998 to carry out many research projects financed by the Walloon Region. At the University of Liege, the LEPUR is the laboratory specialized in the field of Territorial Development.
- present work in connection with the action subject
The SEGEFA and the LEPUR are both working on the negative impacts of the suburbanization. The LEPUR has realized researches for the Walloon Region, which is the institution in charge of the urban planning policy. The SEGEFA is part of the Belgian Federal Research on the "Levers for a Sustainable Development Policy". The research of the SEGEFA is about the "Residential Behaviour of the Households and Sustainable Development Issue".
The final aim of these works is to draw up concrete proposals which, in Belgium, should enable better control of urban sprawl. In this context, greenstructures could be used to reduce both the continuing sprawl and the urban decline as it improves the quality of life of urban dwellers.
