I - PERSONAL
- education:Architect and also certificated in Geography
- professional back ground:
Working in a small private office as a consultant in the field of town-planning/landscape architecture, for public agencies depending of Ministries or of Regions.
- fields of specialisation:
Projects are often about roads or streets and public space. Practical elaboration is concerned with analysys of existing landscapes ñurban and rural- and proposals to protect, to value or to redevelop.I am also working as a researcher for the Ministry for Infrastructure, Transportation and Housing about the relationship between city and nature.
- present work
Research is most about qualities and misadvantages of urban layouts, forms contributing to concentrate city, organized or spontaneous, and the means and methods used for greening it or bettering the public spaces.Recent works published were about Streets (pattern, use, green systemÖ) and about Town, Density and Nature. Articles in reviews were about trees systems in town, as the ì urban walks î in the 18th century, the green system of Garden-cities, the Parisian works of Haussmann around the River Seine, the public spaces and green system of recent Barcelona
- possible contribution to the network
In the previous Network, which was focusing on Greenstructure and urban density (When densification is proposed to planners for ecological purpose, what are the means of having real relationship with Nature inside the town ? was the question the French members were investigating in) the group thought of having comparative studies, one about greenstructure case-study (which has now turned in the ì Greenscom Project î) and the other one about public policies dealing with urban densities.
II - INSTITUTION
I am now doing work for the the Ministry for Infrastructure, Transportation and Housing on public policies trying to refrein urban sprawl in some european countries (see a summary of the study below).
- present work in connection with the action subject
An analysis, from an historical point of view and in relation with general trends and features or urban sprawl in the growth of cities, of how the public policies, general or sectorial, and strategies or instruments, have an influence on the urban development and an analysis of the results,
joined in the annex, a review of the main planning policies and instruments implemented, initiated in recent decades, related to the above topics.
- support, facilities offered to the action
to be added

Study going on, carried on by French delegates, which presents an interest for Cost C11.
In the previous Network, which was focusing on Greenstructure and Urban density (When densification is proposed to planners for ecological purpose, what are the means of having real relationship with Nature inside the town ? was the question the French members were investigating in) the group thought of having comparative studies, one about greenstructure case-study (which has now turned in the " Greenscom Project ") and the other one about public policies dealing with urban densities.
A report issued on French case-study of Cergy-Pontoise, showing the greenstructure of the New town was planned three decades ago, and pointing at two differents urban parts of the new town, one of individual houses, the other of blocks of flats, both matching with Compact city principles, low-rise and medium density, medium-rise and increased density.
Greening is, in these two cases, quite a good example of " greenstructure " projects : it is used as a masterpiece of planning, to emphazise quality of life for inhabitants even if the green areas within these built perimeters are small ones
About public policies used in European countries related to urban densities,. materials are being gathered by me about Swizerland, England, the Netherlands.
Two reports according to this frame-work and based on the same grid were produced for France and Denmark.
These reports are organised in three parts :
o Data, context and trends relative to urban development in cities during the past twenty-five years, at a national level, illustrated by two examples (which talk of greenstructure),
o An analysis, from an historical point of view and in relation with general trends and features or urban sprawl in the growth of cities, of how the public policies, general or sectorial, and strategies or instruments, have an influence on the urban development and an analysis of the results,
o joined in the annex, a review of the main planning policies and instruments implemented, initiated in recent decades, related to the above topics.
